KARACHI: (Dunya News) – Polling equipment has on Friday been provided to the polling staff for the 3rd phase of the local body elections. However, it was a test for the Presiding Officers (PRO) to obtain the equipment in Karachi as the election staff didn’t arrive to provide them with the equipment after inviting them, reported Dunya News.
According to details, PROs were invited by the election staff to obtain the election equipment and the female PROs arrived at the office by buses, rickshaws and even by foot but election staff was not present there, infuriating the PROs. After arriving at the office, election staff told the PROs to make queues and disorder was observed even in the distribution of the equipment.
Election commission officers held the staff responsible for the delay. Male PROs had also brought theoir luggage to spend the night.
In Rawalpindi too, the elections will be held tomorrow. Polling staff was provided with the equipment after long wait.
On the other hand, administration claims that the arrangements are much better this time and it is expected that disorder will not be observed on the polling day.
Open violation of the code of conduct was observed in Multan in the distribution of the polling equipment. PROs took the equipment in their personal vehicles. Some carried the equipment on their motorbikes while others took them in rickshaws. There were even those who lifted the ballot boxes on their shoulders and left. PROs seemed extremely infuriated over the poor arrangements for the distribution of the equipment.
