WASHINGTON: (Dunya News) – International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Gerry Rice has on Friday said that Pakistan hasn’t yet asked for any aid for the earthquake victims. He said that the IMF authorities are constantly in touch with Pakistan government, reported Dunya News.

Talking to media in Washington, Gerry Rice said that the earthquake causing hundreds of deaths in Pakistan and Afghanistan was sad. He said that the IMF authorities are constantly in touch with Pakistan government and this issue will also be discussed but the government of Pakistan hasn’t yet requested any aid.

Rice further said that IMF delegation is currently examining the economic reforms in Pakistan for extending the approval of next installment of the loan to Pakistan.

Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had also stated that Pakistan would overcome the calamity with its own resources.

Talking to media in London, PM said that he will leave for Pakistan shortly, cutting his visit short and cancelling many other engagements. PM Nawaz stated that he will personally monitor the on-going relief efforts. He appreciated the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) for their relief work. He said that NDMA is completely operational and actively helping the earthquake victims.

PM Nawaz also ordered that 2000 tents, mattresses and blankets be sent to the affectees.

PM said that he contacted Chief Minister (CM) Khyber Pakhtunkhawa (KP) Pervez Khattak immediately after the earthquake took place. The PM ordered that the MI-17 helicopter be provided to the KP government on which the CM KP thanked him for the cooperation.He said that the quake has brought more devastation in the mountainous region but Pakistan will overcome the calamity with its own resources.Modi telephoned PM Nawaz and expressed condolences on the loss of lives and property in the earthquake.
