KARACHI (Dunya News) – Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) on Thursday prepared a report and declared as many as 301 buildings in Karachi dangerous.

The rapid construction of buildings and houses in Karachi has left a question mark on their durability to stand against any natural disaster. For this purpose, the concerning body has finalized a report, exploring number of dilapidated buildings in the metropolis.

According to details, at least 301 buildings have been finally declared alarming for residence but the locals have refused to vacate these areas despite number of warnings from district administration.

About 80 percent (236 buildings) are in old city area in Sadar Town, 18 are present in Liaquatabad and three buildings have been observed ramshackle in Keemari and Baldia Town each.

The natives told that the apartments in Karachi are not constructed keeping in view any strategy and map. The provincial government has not taken any action against the contractors.

Meanwhile, the Sindh Building Control Authority has issued directives to take stern action against the residents if they don’t follow the instructions.

Earlier, City District Government has decided to conduct a survey on dangerous and dilapidated buildings in Lahore after a terrible earthquake jolted most parts of the country on October 26.

According to local administration, about 448 ramshackle buildings are present in the metropolis which have also faced damage due to recent earthquake. The district government claimed that more than 50 buildings have been bulldozed while 122 buildings have been renovated so far.

The authority has decided advance arrangements in low lying areas as protection of life and property of citizens is prime responsibility of the government.
