Summary Terrorists shot dead were members of banned organizations, were involved in the Abbas Town incident.
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Eight terrorists on Saturday were gunned down near Northern By-pass in Manghopir area near during a clash with the police. The terrorists shot dead were member of a banned organization and were involved in the Abbas Town incident and also in the target killings of police officers in Karachi. Ammunition, grenades and explosives were recovered from the killed suspects.
According to the details, the operation was conducted on a tip-off related to the presence of terrorists by intelligence officials. A raid was conducted on the terrorists’ hideout by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rao Anwar’s special task force. Suspects opened fire on the officers during the raid. SSP Anwar stated that 8 terrorists during the periodic gunfire exchange.
Two police officers including Station House Officer (SHO) Manghopir were injured during the operation who were shifted to the hospital for treatment.
4 suspects who were shot dead during the operation have been identified as irfan Munir, Saddam, Sharif Ullah and Ismail Mehsood. The killed terrorists were members of Al-Qaeda Bar-i-Sagheer and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Gunned down suspect Munir was also in contact with the Islamic State (IS) or Daesh group. There has been increasing evidence of the presence of Daesh in Sindh as well. Munir was also involved in target killings of police officers while Saddam is said to be involved in the bomb attack in Abbas Town.
Previously, the deadly terrorist bombings that occurred in Abbas Town in March 2013 left more than 48 dead and more than 180 injured. Police in Karachi has arrested several suspects linked to the terrorist act and has been conducting numerous operations against the suspects.

SSP Anwar stated that the police will raid each of those places where information is received of the presence of suspects involved in target killings of police officials.

A report published earlier this year suggested that the operation in Karachi by the Rangers has greatly reduced the target killings. More than 669 police officers have been the victims of targeted killings, a number which has been considerably reduced to 320 since the Karachi operation.
