Top officials of the Higher Education Commission are holding a crucial meeting in Karachi to discuss its role in the verification of lawmakers degrees, Dunya News reported on Monday. The meeting expressed serious concern over the delay by the Sindh and Karachi universities in verifying the degrees. HEC sources said that Sindh and Karachi varsities have received the degrees of the assembly members from Punjab after the verification. It added that the other members degrees are still awaited for evaluation. The meeting is being held after the Election Commission and the education ministry have disputed the HECs authority to verify a university degree issued in the country and abroad. The meeting will also discuss financial problems being faced by the commission. The sources said that HEC Chairman Dr Javed Leghari would brief the members on his recent meetings with the president and the prime minister.
