Nepra hikes power tariff by 64 paisa per unit

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) once again increased power tariff by 64 paisas per unit. According to the Nepra sources, the tariff was raised under the fuel adjustment, will be implemented from August 1 and consumers will have to pay this additional fuel surcharge in their electricity bills of August. According to sources, the Central Power Purchase Agency had recommended for increase in power prices by Rs 1 to RS 2. However NEPRA has approved 64 paisas increase under the fuel adjustment. The increase would be implemented on all distribution consumers. The government had earlier increased the electricity tariff in June after the rise in furnace oil prices. NEPRA had refused to put the burden of fine over non-payment over to the consumers and had directed that the line losses should be bear by distribution companies and Central power Purchase agency.
