A bench led by Chief Justice heard the Steel Mills corruption case in the Supreme Court on Wednesday. Deputy Attorney General Abid Saqi told the SC in the case that they were helpless and couldnt do anything to file FIR against Riaz Lal Ji. But he denied his statement after some time saying that his tongue was slipped. The Deputy Attorney General told the SC that 14 accused in the case have been nabbed while property of other three has been confiscated and accounts sealed. On this, the CJP said that Steel Mills is the backbone of Pakistan and its loss is the loss of the country. The CJP remarked that the court knows how much corruption was done in the PSM. Deputy Attorney General said that departmental committee has been formed to calculate the overall loss in the PSM. However, Rs 10 billion loss been incurred only in 10 cases, he added. The SC asked that why the FIR against Riaz Lal Ji was not registered. On this Deputy Attorney General told the court that they were helpless and said to register the FIR now. Justice Ramday asked who tied your hands. On this Deputy Attorney General replied that his tongue was slipped for no reason. Justice Ramday said that if departments have fear of the SC, they should do good works. He said if the government wants us to close corruption cases, we will do, the government should do whatever it wants. He asked the names of those who are at large on bail-before-arrest for last five months.
