Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry in his remarks said that the current judiciary has stepped in the way of dictator. He said that the court is trying at maximum level to save the present system by supporting it.A 17-judge full court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry was hearing petitions challenging certain clauses in the 18th Amendment. CJP also said that efforts should be made to save the constitutional provision and the courts should abide by the executive orders. He said that judiciary has traveled a long way forward and remarked that Supreme Court is maintaining parliaments dignity and prestige through exposure of fake degree holders.Senior lawyer Hafeez Pirzada said that while making his arguments that the present parliament has gone beyond its mandate by including the 18th amendment in the constitution. He said that the parliament can make amendments, but it does not have the power to change the basic structure of the Constitution.
