(Web Desk) - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Russia’s Ufa city ahead of the BRICS and Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summits, the Indian media reported.

During a nearly 90-minute-long meeting, Modi reiterated India’s concerns over the USD 46 billion China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.

Modi also expressed concern over China blocking India’s move at the UN on the Lakhvi issue.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly took up the issue of China blocking the resolution. He conveyed India s concerns,” Indian Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar said while briefing reporters on the Modi-Xi meeting, the fifth between the two leaders in the last one year.

Elaborating on Modi`s comments, Jaishankar said, “the Prime Minister made our concerns known very clearly.”

“I can assume that the Chinese side was impressed with the clarity and directness in which it was conveyed. It was felt that we should keep talking on that,” he added.

Asked what would be the format of the discussions on this issue, he said officials will take up from where the leaders have left.
