FAISALABAD (Dunya News) – Federal Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali on Saturday has said that the Prime Minister (PM) has strictly advised him to limit power outages during the month of Ramzan.

He expressed these views while talking to the media in Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO).

He said that the ministry would strive to provide at least 70 percent to 80 percent power at Sehar and Iftar timings however, outages could not be ended altogether. He said that durations of power outages have lessened in his tenure as six-hour long outages are carried out in urban areas while eight-hour long in rural. However, he said that the areas with heavy line losses are bearing at least 18-hour long power cut.

He expressed a vow to end electricity crisis by the end of 2017.

While talking about the ongoing alleged rigging case in the inquiry commission, Ali said that a contempt of court case should be filed against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan as he failed to prove the allegations. Khan failed to prove supremacy of merit and democracy in the local body (LB) elections 2015 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and thus he should resign.

The federal minister also commented on tensions with India in the past days. He said that the neighbouring country is the most disturbed of all others over China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Ali warned that Pakistan is a nuclear state and she should refrain from passing threats.

On a question about Karachi operation, Ali said that the ongoing operation in Karachi is not against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) but insurgents who are working against stability and peace in the city and the country. He said that at least Rs 2 billion was seized from MQM’s Sharjeel Memon. Why the authorities have halted the probe in the matter, he asked. The minister further said that the people in Karachi do not have potable water to drink whereas their ministers are reveling with money.
