Pakistan became atomic power 17 years ago on 28 May by testing 5 atomic bombs in Chaghi
LAHORE (Web Desk) – Youm-e-Takbeer is being celebrated today (Thursday) with patriotic enthusiasm all over the Pakistan to mark the 17th anniversary of Pakistan s becoming an nuclear power.
Pakistan tested its atomic bomb on 28th May, 1998 in Chaghi area of Balochistan. Pakistan became world’s 7th and Islamic world’s 1st atomic power on this day.
The power of Pakistan’s atomic bomb was 50 tons. Pakistan tested the bombs in a very tense time when the border with India was facing threats and India had tested their Atomic bomb on 11 May.
There was a lot of pressure on Pakistan both from inside the country and foreign powers. Pakistan was being pressurized by America, Britain and Japan to not test the nuclear bomb in response to India’s atomic tests or be ready to face economic bans. But the pressure from inside the country on then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was too much to compromise the answer to India’s tests.
Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) will organize many seminars and ceremonies to celebrate the big day. To celebrate the anniversary of Pakistan’s becoming atomic power, cake cutting ceremonies will also be organized. Rallies will also be held and special prayers for Pakistan will be organzed.
In a message to nation on the occasion of Youm-e-Takbeer, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said despite world pressure, Pakistan conducted the nuclear tests in reply to nuclear tests conducted by India.
The prime minister said that after conducting nuclear tests, defence of Pakistan became impregnable and the enemies could not dare to look towards it with bad intentions.
He said nuclear tests were carried in the best interest of the country and now they will bring economic revolution which will change the destiny of the nation.
