The Gilgit-Baltistan government announced an overall consolidated budget of Rs 12.98 billion for 2010-11.The budget sets aside Rs 6.57 billion for development, while Rs 6.40 billion has been allocated for non-developmental works.The education sector with an outlay of Rs290 million has been given priority over health sector which has an allocation of Rs60.73 million. Allocations for other sectors include agriculture Rs109.8.Major initiatives, announced by Gilgit-Baltistan Finance Minister Muhammad Ali Akthar in his speech, include increase in pay, pension and medical allowance of government employees. At least 1500 new vacancies will be generated. A new directorate has been formed to empower women in the province.
