Govt doesn't want to present real facts over Yemen crisis: Saeed Ghani

Summary The Parliament session over Yemen situation was earlier resumed on third day.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Speaker of National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq resumed the joint Parliamentary session on third day to evolve national consensus on the Yemen crisis, Dunya News reported on Wednesday.

Pakistan has regularly vowed to back Saudi Arabia if there is any threat to its territorial integrity, but has so far not committed to taking material part in the air strikes against Iran-backed Houthi rebels.

Talking to the House, Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah showed concerns over the current situation of neighboring country and advised the government not to take any part in Yemen war.

He said that the government should assist Saudi Arabia by strengthening its defence capabilities but should not interfere in this matter as per sending Pakistani troops to Yemen is concerned.

He further expressed that Pakistan possesses strong relations with Saudi Arabia in terms of political, diplomatic and financial support.

Taking part in Yemen related debate, Usman Khan Kakar urged the Islamic countries and United Nations (UN) to play constructive role in sorting out the crisis.

He said that Saudi government has no threat from Houthi rebels, therefore, Pakistan should not take any decision of dispatching the army to Yemen.

General Secretary of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Shireen Mazari advised the government to remain neutral while taking any verdict with respect to Yemen situation.

She further urged the government to focus on collective efforts as the Muslim community should play a role of peace developers.

Mazari said that PTI clearly opposes the decision of taking any material part that could intensify the issue.

Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi said that Pakistan would not be able to handle any other war as we are already fighting with terrorism in our own country.

He further appealed to restore the special image of Pakistan in the Islamic community by ending the crisis and bringing the Muslim community closer.

Pakistan should try to overcome this alarming situation of Yemen and should also offer humanitarian aid to Saudi Arabia, he added.

Iftikharuddin stressed over framing any policy regarding Yemen situation while keeping in view the national interest of the country. He said that we can participate in the war but to provide solutions only. He also advised the leadership of Pakistan to avoid sending troops to Yemen.

He further suggested to call on the foreign delegations in order to hit any final decision whereas Senator Saeed Ghani alleged the government of not fully informing the Parliament over Yemen crisis.

Meanwhile, Speaker Ayaz adjourned the session till tomorrow.
