KARACHI: (Dunya News) – An attack on Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) camp office last night has stirred up controversy as the things heat up in the NA-246 just before the by-election. While PTI held Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) responsible for the attack, PTI Chairman Imran Khan warned that MQM chief Altaf Hussain will be booked if any of PTI workers was hurt, reported Dunya News.
According to the details, unidentified men uprooted PTI’s camp in Karimabad area of Karachi on Friday night. PTI candidate from the constituency Imran Ismail said that the MQM wanted to scare the people but PTI will set up the camp office again. Talking on a video link, Imran Khan directed the PTI leaders in Karachi to register a written complaint with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for this matter.
On the other hand, MQM rejected PTI’s allegations and said it had no idea about the attack. MQM candidate Kunwar Naved Jameel offered to set up the campaign again and also offered MQM workers for camp’s security.
Police arrested 8 MQM workers as a consequence of the events that took place last night but MQM’s rejection of the allegations made the matters more controversial.
In a letter to the ECP, Senior Vice President PTI Naz Baloch stated that Imran Ismail, PTI’s candidate from NA-246, was attacked at various points by the opponents while he, along with his convoy, visited the constituency for election campaign. The letter stated that the PTI workers were being threatened of dire consequences and therefore, army and Rangers officers should be deployed in the polling stations of NA-246 so that PTI’s polling agents and voters could fearlessly exercise their right of vote.
Election in Na-246 will be held on 23rd of April.
