The Senate proposed revision of major budget proposals seeking withdrawal of one per cent increase in General Sales Tax (GST), increase salaries of grade 1-16 employees to 60%, enhance dowry grant and raise minimum wages to Rs. 9000.The House adopted the 74 recommendation proposed by the Senate Standing Committee on Finance headed by Senator Ahmed Ali and urged to further transmit these to National Assembly for incorporation into the Finance Bill 2010-2011.Out of total 74 recommendations, 31 are general recommendations and 43 recommendations constitute amendments in various clauses of the Finance Bill, to be adopted by National Assembly.Prominent recommendations including one per cent GST, increase salaries of employees upto grade 16 by 60%, increase the dowry grant to Rs 100,000 and minimum wages to Rs 9,000.The Senate recommended to reduced duty on Crude Palm oil so the other vegetable ghee mills in the country can survive, exempt agricultural products and commodities. The Senate also recommended to drastically curtail all official foreign visits and number of delegates in each visit should not exceed 10, PIA, WAPDA, PEPCO Pakistan Steel and Pakistan Railways be re-structured and operated under public-private partnership and the State Bank of Pakistan should accelerate its efforts towards promotion of Islamic Banking and Finance.
