Sufi saint Hazrat Madhu Lal's Urs begins in Lahore

The festivities will last another two days

LAHORE (Daily Dunya) – The 427th Urs of Sufi Saint Hazrat Shah Hussain alias Madhu Lal Hussain has begin at his shrine in Baghbanpura area of Lahore and is organized by Punjab’s Department of Religious Affairs.

The ceremonies will continue to take place tomorrow (Sunday) and day after. According to details, Director General Religious Affairs Dr Tahir Raza Bukhari opened the event by replacing the floral sheet at the tomb in absence of the provincial minister for Awqaf Ata Manika and Secretary Awqaf.

Director Finance Zarif Satti, Zonal Administrator Abdul Sattar, Chairman Committee for Religious Affairs Mian Basharat, Manager Awqaf Mumtaz Ahmed and a large number of devotees and followers participated in the event.

The Awqaf Department had reserved a grant of Rs 4.5 lakh for the event. The celebratory event provides opportunities to several street vendors to set up temporary shops selling eatables outside the shrine.

Swings have also been installed inside the shrine’s vicinity. The surroundings are presenting a picture of festival mainly because of the holiday.

The pilgrims danced on the drum beat in the traditional Sufi manner on the opening day of the Urs.

Some problems were also observed including fake pirs setting up shops and saints giving drinks with Bhang substance to the devotees.

The shrine has been lighted with beautiful lamps on the opening day. The festivities of the event will last another two days.
