KARACHI (Dunya news) – The Federal government on Wednesday approved the request to stop prisoner Shafqat Hussain’s execution. The execution has been postponed for a time period of 30 days. The death by hanging was to be carried out on Thursday in Karachi.

Sindh government’s Local Body Minister Sharjeel Memon had appealed to President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain to stop the death sentence from being carried out. 

According to the details, Azad Kashmir’s Shafqat Hussain was arrested on 10th of April 2004 for the kidnapping and murder of 7 year old Umair. The trial court had handed him the death by hanging sentence. No birth certificate was presented by the prosecution at that time.

The police had stated the culprit’s age as 23 to 24 years at the time of arrest. The convict had stated his age as 23 years in the court in 2004. Meanwhile, according to the documents obtained from Muzzafarabad, Hussain’s date of birth is 1st October 1991 which makes his age 24 years. 

Hussain’s parents had also presented his birth certificate along with further evidence in front of the media during a press conference in Muzzaffarabad. The prisoner’s family requested the government of Pakistan that the execution be stopped and another hearing of the case should be held.
