ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan has officially opposed India’s bid to permanent membership in Nuclear Suppliers Group and Security Council and said that it reserves the right to defend itself against threats, Dunya News reported.

Advisor to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz said that Pakistan is frontline ally of the international community against terrorism and that it expects the same zeal of determination from other countries.

He said that the mutual steps and cooperation among all countries against terrorism is necessary.

Aziz said that Pakistan is reviewing the long term impacts of agreements between India and United States on Pakistan “because we reserve the right to protect our national interests”.

He said most members including Pakistan support comprehensive reforms in the Security Council, however, the country that opposes resolutions of United Nations cannot become a member of the Security Council. He said Pakistan, therefore, opposes India’s permanent membership of Security Council.

Sartaj Aziz urged the US to play positive role to create balance of power in the region. He demanded India to bring culprits of Samjhota Express to justice.
