18th amend: SC issues notices to Govt, AG

Supreme Court of Pakistan referred the matter of forming a larger bench to hear the identical petitions challenging several clauses of the 18th amendment to Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. Also, the court issued notices to the government and attorney general and adjourned the case till two weeks. During the hearing of the said cases, Akram Sheikh argued against the judicial commission, and called for immediate annulment of the Article 175-A and termed it a law against the freedom of judiciary. Justice Rehmat Hussain Jaffrey remarked that federal law minister does have a role in the appointment of judges and as such how could his role in the judicial commission be objected.
