Death toll in famine-hit Thar reaches 80
At least 35 children are suffering from pneumonia while apathy of administration adds to misery.
THARPARKAR (Dunya News) – Another six children passed away today (Monday) in Tharparkar due to insufficient facilities, surging the death toll to 80.
At least 35 children in Dhali are suffering from pneumonia and apathy of the administration has added to the misery.
Dozens of villages in Chachro and Dhali remained devoid of wheat whereas hundreds of wells have dried up whereas inhibitants of Mubarak Rind are deprived of water for the past five days.
People have started to evacuate far flung areas whereas locals of the area hold the feudal lords and political intervention responsible for halting the acquisition of wheat to the poor and affected people.
Earlier on Sunday, Pakistan Army distributed 150 ton of ration among over 14130 affected families, Dunya News reported.
The relief efforts by the Pakistan army are continued in Tharparkar.
According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), army’s relief operation is ongoing in Dhani, Chachru, Khansar, Mithi and Dali.
The army has established at least 33 centers to provide the food to the affected people and have distributed at least 150 ton ration among thousands of affected families.
The army has also set up at least 29 medical camps where as many as 18491 patients were treated in the affected areas.
