First person dies of dengue this year
Dengue virus has infected hundreds of people across the country.
LAHORE (Web Desk) – A 24-year-old patient became the first person to have died from dengue virus in Punjab this year, Dunya News reported.
The deceased identified as Awais was resident of Shalimar Town area of Lahore. He was shifted to Services Hospital a week ago.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif took notice of patient`s death and sought report from the concerned authorities.
Reportedly, 32 news dengue cases have surfaced in the province during last 24 hours, out of which, 30 patients belong to Rawalpindi.
The total number of dengue-infected patients now stands at 386 in Punjab alone.
The illness is spreading across the Punjab because of poor hygiene conditions, and heavy monsoon rain provided ideal conditions for dengue-carrying mosquitoes to thrive in stagnant waters.
There is currently no cure or vaccine for dengue fever. Surveillance, timely reporting of cases and proactive vector control are necessary.
