ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Hearing the case of local bodies elections in Islamabad on Tuesday, a three member bench headed by Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk dismissed the response submitted by the Sindh government regarding the delimitation of the constituencies and has also directed the government to appoint a permanent Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) within two weeks’ time.

The court has furthermore directed the Sindh government to present a bill about demarcation of the constituencies by Thursday. It pronounced to summon chief minister Sindh in case they are unable to produce response in due time.

Earlier today, a response regarding the local bodies elections in Punjab and Sindh had been submitted in the Supreme Court by Advocate General Sindh Fateh Malik stating that Governor Sindh has raised objection to a few technicalities in the draft regarding the demarcation of local constituencies.

He said the ordinance will be issued if the objection be dealt with.

The response submitted by the Punjab government asked the Federal government to carry out legislation and they shall follow the suit. It said Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has also restricted provincial legislation as long as the federal legislation gets carried out and that the legislative process has to begin with the federal government.

A few days back, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) had submitted its ordinance regarding the local bodies election according to which the authority to delimitate the constituencies has been vested to ECP.
