Dr Shama Khalid takes oath as Gilgit-Baltistans governor
Dr Shama Khalid on Tuesday took oath as Governor of Gilgit-Baltistan, becoming the first woman assuming governorship in the countrys history. The chief judge Supreme Appellate Court of Gilgit-Baltistan administered oath to Dr Shama Khalid at a special investiture ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr, witnessed by President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Syed Mehdii Shah and federal ministers. President Zardari had appointed Dr Shama Khalid as the Governor of Gilgit-Baltistan on Monday. Dr Shama Khalid is a leading social worker who voluntarily worked in different parts of Gilgit-Baltistan by establishing free summer medical camps every year.
