Taliban negotiations: PTI's Gulzar Khan to join dialogue committee

Summary Khan will represent Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in govt's Taliban-dialogue committee.

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) has recommended its Member National Assembly (MNA) Gulzar Khan to join government’s committee to negotiate with Taliban and represent Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the process. The name was recommended by party chairman Imran Khan, Dunya News reported.
According to reports, PTI has sent the recommendation to the government to bring KP’s representation on board the negotiations committee. Former bureaucrat Gulzar Khan belongs to Budhbir area in Peshawar and made his way to national assembly by contesting 2013 general elections from PTI’s ticket in his constituency NA 4.
Prior to joining politics, Khan has had various government key posts including Home Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Senior Member Board of Revenue.
PTI’s provincial president confirmed the reports of recommendation of Gulzar Khan’s name for the dialogue process.
It merits mentioning here that Taliban and government had announced ceasefire earlier this month in a bid to farther the negotiation process. Following the ceasefire, government had eliminated the role of Taliban committee hinting of the direct dialogue between government and Taliban’s political Shura in Waziristan.
It was also reported that government is due to restructure its committee and that the new committee will have representation from military and prominent political leadership.
