Protest by the prisoners at Central Jail Faisalabad had turned violent. Police had to fire tear gas shells and do aerial firing in order to bring the situation under control, scores of prisoners have been injured by the aerial firing and tear gas shells. Prisoners have claimed that three of their fellow prisoners have been killed.According to sources, the prisoners were protesting against the newly appointed Jail Superintendent Tariq Babar whom they said was harassing and torturing the prisoners. The protest turned violent and Police had to fire shells of gas to control law and order. DIG Prisons Malik Mubashir has taken notice of the incident and ordered for inquiry into the incident. Police has also cordoned the Jail.One of the prisoner speaking to Dunya news said that there was calm when Minister for Prison was here for a short trip as soon as he left, situation turned violent again.He also said that Police is firing excessive tear gas shells as a result several prisoners are in critical condition. No medical facilities are available here.Minister for Prison has claimed that this is for the first time such an incident has occurred in Faisalabad and everything is under control and the Police officers are there monitoring the situation.
