SC reserves decision in grade 22 promotions case

Supreme Court has reserved the decision in a case of grade 22 promotions without seniority. The court ordered to issue notices to 54 promoted officers through Establishment Division. Chief Justice remarked that discretion doesnt mean that an NLC officer was promoted in grade 22. Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that people will support the government if it takes decisions on merit. During the hearing of a case against promotions of officers in grade 22 without seniority, the CJP remarked that promotion should be purely done on merit. He directed Attorney General that he should prefer peoples interest instead of government.
