Supreme Court has asked to submit the reasons for the promotion of 51 officers from grade 21 to grade 22. Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudary remarked that seniority was not considered for the promotions and the senior officers were not promoted while the out-of-turn promotions were made. CJ remarked while hearing a petition filed by officers who were not promoted.Earlier, Secretary Establishment Ismail Qureshi informed the court that promotion to grade 22 were made in complete discretion of the PM and seniority was not important in that case. The Attorney General has requested the CJP to direct the media to stop discussions on court issues on which the CJP said that the freedom of media was a part of the constitution which cannot be snubbed. Next hearing would take place on January 26.
