Summary 136th birth anniversary of poet-philosopher Allama Muhammad Iqbal was celebrated across country.

LAHORE (Web Desk) - The 136th birth anniversary of poet-philosopher Dr Allama Mohammad Iqbal was celebrated today (Saturday).

In their separate messages on the occasion President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif have urged the nation to renew pledge to make Pakistan a true welfare state by implementing the philosophy of great poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal.

They called for purging the country of all evils including sectarianism and extremism.

Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar‚ Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif‚ and a large number of people visited the mazar of Allama Iqbal in Lahore‚ offered fateha and laid floral wreath.

Radio Pakistan aired special programmes to pay homage to the thinker of Pakistan.

Various educational‚ political‚ social and cultural organizations arranged special programmes on the occasion.

A special ceremony in connection with the Iqbal Day was held under the aegis of Markazia Majlis-e-Iqbal in Lahore today (Saturday).

Presiding over the ceremony the Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar stressed upon the participants to understand the meaning of Allama Iqbal’s poetry and try to follow the message given in it.

Another ceremony was also held at Alhamra under the aegis of Nazria-e-Pakistan Trust chaired by senior journalist Majeed Nizami.

A meeting was also held at Iqbal Manzil‚ the birth place of Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal at Sialkot under the auspices of Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Addressing the meeting‚ the speakers said that it was Allama Iqbal who visualizes the idea of a separate state for the Muslims of sub-continent which led to the creation of Pakistan.

They said we can overcome our multifarious problems and difficulties by following the thoughts of Dr. Iqbal and make Pakistan invincible fort of the globe.

Radio Pakistan’s correspondent reports that a big procession was taken out from Iqbal Manzil to the graves of the mother and father of Iqbal.

The representatives of civil society‚ journalists‚ students‚ government officers and a large number of citizens joined the procession.
