Courts relieved Musharraf not govt: Abid Sher Ali

Says government has no magic to resolve energy crisis within three months.

 LAHORE (Dunya news) - State Minister for Water & Power has said that the Courts have relieved Pervez Musharraf not the government and opponents should contact to courts, as his release was not a result of any deal.

“Government could not give any date for reduction of electricity prices, though, power plants running by furnace oil would be transferred on gas after importing LNG till March,” he said.

In a press conference on Saturday, he disclosed that line losses have been increasing due to electricity theft, adding recovery of dues was also less, he added.

Abid Sher Ali mentioned that if the government felt to privatize distributions it would be done transparently.

The State Minister said that PM directed to start operation against alleged electricity thieves indiscriminately.

“LESCO has 80 percent line losses, which are unacceptable, millions of units have been sold and poor have to pay bills including these losses,” the minister added.

He reminded that 1700 mega watt electricity have been inducted in National grid station after payment of 480 billion rupees circular debt, adding government working on priority basis to end loadshedding, he added.

“Qatari and Russian companies gave green signal for investment in Gadani power projects,” Abid Sher mentioned.

The state minister stated that electricity price hike directly links to increase in oil prices.

He mentioned that 90 percent feeders of PEPCO having 90 percent line losses and FIR of electricity theft has been registered against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s member of assembly there.

“Bill would be tabled to federal cabinet to stop electricity theft and than it would send to assembly for approval,” the minister mentioned.
