Summary

A spokesman of the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday denied the media reports about the meeting of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry with Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif while PML-N leader Senator Pervaiz Rashid said that federal government should stop its ministers from issuing derogatory statements. Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira has appealed to the Supreme Court to take suo moto notice of this report regarding a meeting between CJP and Punjab CM, which reportedly took place in Lahore last week. The meeting is meaningful in the present situation, especially when the detailed decision of Supreme Court on National Reconciliation Order (NRO) is still pending, he said adding that the court should therefore take notice of the matter. The SC spokesman warned that strict action would be taken against those who were debating and making statements on the baseless report. It further said that some elements were debating on this report to achieve their vested interests. The report is baseless and uncalled for and is an attempt to affect the reputation of the institution, it said, adding that those issuing any statement in this regard will have to face serious consequences.
