Chairman Constitutional Reforms Committee Raza Rabbani and other Senators walked out of the Senate on Tuesday in protest over Lyari operation and demanded that the operation should not be targeted at a PPP stronghold only. Raza Rabbani offered his resignation to Prime Minister Gilani saying his responsibilities should be handed over to Attorney General Latif Khosa and Federal Minister for Law and Justice Babar Awan. The PM refused to accept his resignation and said that Rabbani should finish the work of the constitution reforms committee. Meanwhile, other PPP Senators along with Deputy Chairman Senate Jan Muhammad Jamali also staged a walk out from senate against the operation in Lyari and demanded across the board operation against the criminals. The senators expressed their concern over the worsening law and order situation in the city, stressing that political harmony is the need of the hour for peace and security. Participating in the debate, Senator Lashkari Raisani also said that violence in Karachi was part of a conspiracy to destabilize the democratic system. He condemned the operation in Lyari, saying it could disturb peace of the city. Rabbani insisted that the charter of democracy should be implemented in order to ensure political stability, while the government should focus on providing basics such as 'bread, clothing and shelter' to the masses as it promised. Afrasiab Khattak said the wave of violence in the country has deep roots and sustained efforts will have to be made to rectify the situation.Furthermore, Khalid Soomro warned that some foreign agents are also active in different parts of the country who are exploiting the situation to advance their agenda.
