ECP orders recount in PP-150 Lahore

The ECP has directed to complete the process of recounting in three days after a plea filed by PTI.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Election Commission of Pakistan on Wednesday took up the matter pertaining to rigging allegations raised by PTI in by-elections in Punjab Assembly constituency PP-150 Lahore.

The counsel of PTI took the stance that rigging was done during the preparation of poll results. He said that the votes of PML-N candidate were increased during the compiling of results.

According to the sources PTI also had blamed ECP of rigging in the by-election. The PTI had accused that a member of ECP was openly backing a particular political party.

After hearing the arguments, the ECP suspended the decision of the Returning Officer and ordered recounting of votes. 

The ECP has directed the concerned Returning Officer to complete the process of recounting in three days.

It is to be mention here that Mian Marghoob of PML-N was declared as winner from PP-150 in the by-election.

The PTI had leveled allegations of rigging in the polls and staged protests demonstrations in Lahore in this connection. 

On Monday, the ECP took suo motu notice of rigging allegations during the by-polls in PP-150 and summoned all contesting candidates.

The ECP had said that the matter requires further consideration and issued notices under Section 103 of the

Representation of the People Act, 1976 to all contesting candidates to appear before ECP on Wednesday.
