Hamid Karzai arrives in Islamabad
Afghan President Hamid Karzai has arrived in Islamabad on a day long visit.
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Afghan President was received at the airport by Advisor on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz. A twenty-one gun salute was presented in his honour.
Hamid Karzai is accompanied by a high level delegation including cabinet ministers and senior officials.
This is the first visit of the Afghan President since assumption of power by the new government in Pakistan.
He will hold talks with Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on the entire gamut of bilateral relations including Afghan reconciliation process and regional situation.
Earlier‚ Foreign Office Spokesman Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry said Afghan President s visit will help remove misunderstandings and improve relations between the two countries.
He said this will be the first highest-level contact between the leaderships of Pakistan and Afghanistan since the assumption of power by the new government in Pakistan.
Aizaz Chaudhry said bilateral relations‚ reconciliation process in Afghanistan and regional situation are the three main items on the agenda to be discussed between the two sides.
The spokesman said a big change is going to take place in Afghanistan with the withdrawal of US-led foreign forces next year and both the countries will have to work together to find solutions to the problems.
He said it is encouraging that the leaders of the two countries have political will to settle the unresolved matters.
