Chenab in high flood after India releases water

River Chenab is in high flood while the overflowing water has flooded dozens of low-lying villages.


LAHORE (Dunya News) - After release of thousand of cusecs of water in River Sutlej in the last three days, India has now released thousands of cusecs of water into River Chenab.

 

River Chenab is in high flood while the overflowing water has flooded dozens of low-lying villages along the river.

 

Floodwater has entered village Nogra of Wazirabad after high flood in River Chenab. Sources said people have been trapped in floodwaters and rescue teams have been called in the area.

 

The affected villages include: Billy Naulan, Pakkeywala, Dado Aana, Daoka, Habib, Wagha Kaleka, Patoana, Jandran, Toppa Bila, Billa Mirjana, Masson, Jharki and Gulwal. The floodwater has completely eroded cotton and other Rabi crops in these villages.

 

Evacuation warnings have been issued as the local Meteorological Department forecast a very high flood in River Chenab.

 

According to the Flood Control Centre, the River Chenab at Head Marala is likely to be in very high flood ranging between 400,000 cusecs to 500,000 cusecs from 2000 Hours (PST) on August 14 to 1000 Hours (PST) on August 15.

 

People living in high-flood risk areas have been warned to evacuate their homes as soon as possible.

 

On the other hand, at Head Khanki the river maybe in high to very high flood ranging between 400,000 cusecs to 500,000 cusecs from 0600 Hours (PST) to 2200 Hours (PST) on August 15.

 

The water level is continuously rising at Khanki.

 

A high to very high flood tide ranging between 400,000 cusecs to 500,000 cusecs is expected at Head Qadirabad from 1200 Hours (PST) to 2400 Hours (PST) on August 15.

 

A high to very high flood is anticipated in River Chenab’s natural drains namely Bhimber, Bhundar, Halsi, Daulti, Aik & Palku.

 

Also River Ravi’s drains Deg, Bhed, Hasri, Jhajri, Bassantar,

 

Bein, Ujh, Tarnah could be in high flood during the next two days.
