Extortion mafia active in Lahore, traders receive threats

Summary Police have failed to arrest any culprit so far.

 

LAHORE - Traders in Lahore have lodged separate police complaints about threats of extortion, Dunya News reported on Wednesday. 

 

The scourge of extortion, which has been afflicting businesses in Karachi for many years, is now starting to surface in Lahore.

 

Traders and other businessmen have approached police after receiving calls to pay hefty amount of extortion.

 

So far, four such cases have been registered in different areas of the city including Shahd Bagh, Shalimar and Mughalpura.

 

Muhammad Ashraf, a trader, said he was asked to pay Rs200,000 extortion by a person named Nadeem.

 

The complainant said that Nadeem has threatened kidnap his son Imran if he refused to pay extortion.
