Summary Ahead of general election, ex-PM Ashraf issued funds worth Rs6 bn to the people of his own liking.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Thursday remarked that the prime minister has no prerogative to release discretionary funds.
A three-member bench of the Supreme Court resumed hearing into petition regarding distribution of development funds by former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf.
During case proceeding, former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf’s lawyer Waseem Sajjad argued that Auditor General and Public Accounts Aommittee are there to look into the matter pertaining to the misue of development funds.
Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry remarked that former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf sanctioned funds worth 6.50 billion rupees to the people of his own liking ahead of the general elections.
If people are not benefitting from the development funds, it means that funds are being wrongly used, he added.
CJP further stated that the former prime minister issued funds despite knowing that his tenure was going to expire soon.
