LAHORE (Dunya News) - Resenting over inadequate anti-measles measures, the Lahore High Court on Tuesday said that ministers and advisors behind substandard anti-measles vaccination will be sent to jail.
The court was hearing a petition moved by Judicial Activism Panel Chairman Azhar Siddique, seeking judicial inquiry into measles-related deaths to fix responsibility of the government functionaries over the outbreak.
During case proceeding, the petitioner’s counsel told court that the deaths were not stopping despite administering of vaccination to the children.
He argued the federal and provincial governments have completely failed in controlling the outbreak.
Medical Superintendents (MS) of Jinnah Hospital, Services Hospital and Meo Hospital also appeared before court and presented a report in the court.
It was stated in the report that deaths are occurring because parents are experimenting ‘magic remedy’ on their children.
The lives of the children could be saved if they are provided timely medical treatment, it added.
The court said that provincial health department has showed negligence in the regard and if any high official found involved, he will be sent to jail.
