Summary Supreme Court resumed hearing of Karachi law & order case today.

KARACHI: Supreme Court’s larger bench on Wednesday remarked that Karachi police has failed to control the criminal activities in the city, thus, the authorities should post an advertisement to caution citizens to live at their own risk, Dunya News reported.

A five-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali resumed hearing of Karachi law & order case at Karachi Registry.

During case proceeding, Additional IG Iqbal Mehmood informed court that around 2,300 people were killed last year in the city.

Justice Jawad S Khwaja remarked that the administration seems reluctant to arrest those who are involved in killings and other criminal activities.

To a question, Prosecutor General Sindh told court that there are 22,535 proclaimed offenders and absconders present in the city.

On this, Justice Khawaja questioned the Prosecutor General that why the authorities have not taken any action so far to arrest those accused. The government is responsible if the citizens’ life and property are not safe.

Justice Amir Hani inquired IG Sindh Police about the number of cases that were categorized as A class involving target killings, and asked how a murder case can be categorized as A class within a week.

Justice Khwaja stated that authorities must admit that they have failed to maintain law & order in the city and the situation is out of control now.

He said order over Karachi’s law & order case was passed in 2011 but still there is no change.
