Summary Taj Haider says PML-N’s demand for two new provinces in Pujab is a plot against Saraiki people.

ISLAMABAD: Senior leader of Pakistan People’s Party Taj Haider has said that demand of Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif to form Bahawalpur and Multan two separate provinces is a plot to divide Saraiki people.

In a statement former Senator and new elected Provincial General Secretary of Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarian, Sindh, said that Saraiki people have full rights of a separate identity. “Those all elements who believe in giving the rights to oppressed people are supporting the just cause of Saraiki province”, Taj added.

Taj Haider, who also wrote a research thesis on Saraiki province, raised objections on the name of proposed province ‘Bahawalpur Janubi Punjab” suggested by the commission on new province by saying that the name not only fail to express the feeling of the people but also negates their due demand.

In the past Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was also deprived of their own name for almost six decades. Would Saraiki people also have to wait for next 60 years for their rights, PPP leader asked.

He said that the matter regarding equal distribution of resources to new province might be dissolved under NFC formula, which could be implemented on new province like the prevailing federating units.

He demanded the government to grant full autonomy to the provinces under 18th amendment. He said that it is unjust that one side the people of Saraiki belt are craving for potable water and on the other hand Rs 58 billions have been spent on the roads of Lahore.

It is high time to remove the miseries of Saraiki people so that they might be brought into mainstream through development in their province.
