The US has expressed concern over unprovoked firing by Indian troops on a Pakistani post along the Line of Control in Kashmir in which one Pakistani soldier embraced martyrdom.
Briefing the newsmen in Washington, State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland told reporters that the US is concerned about reports of violence along the Line of Control in Kashmir. and asked both sides to show patience.
‘We have consistently supported attempts between India and Pakistan to find a positive way forward between them and to work on issues of Kashmir. We are concerned about any reports of violence along the Line of Control in Kashmir. We urge both sides to take steps to end exchanges of fire and to resume normal trade and travel across the Line of Control,” she said.
Meanwhile, Pakistani Foreign Office on Monday has protested formally to India for an attack on its army post.
A statement issued by the office said the Indian deputy high commissioner was summoned to the Foreign Ministry over the "unprovoked" attack on an army post Sunday that killed one soldier and wounded several others.
The statement warned India to avoid a recurrence of such incidents.
