Summary Defence Secretary Asif Yaseen says army cannot be deployed at all the polling stations.
ISLAMABAD: Secretary Defence Lieutenant General (Retd) Asif Yaseen has said that Pak Army cannot be deployed at all the polling stations during the upcoming elections, and instead Army will monitor only sensitive polling stations.
Talking to media after the meeting held at Election Commission office Wednesday to analyse security situation in next general elections, Defence Secretary Lt. Gen Retd. Yaseen said that it is impossible to deploy 160,000 armed-personnel at a total of 80,000 polling stations.
The Defence Secretary noted that there is no precedence found in country’s history that might support deployment of forces at all the polling stations. However, he observed that forces would be positioned at the stations recommended by Election Commission.
Asif Yaseen briefed the Election Commission on Army’s cooperation for ensuring peace during the next general elections.
