The meeting with high hopes and expectations between Pakistans two largest parties leadership ended without any breakthrough on Monday as Raja Zafar ul Haq said National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) was not discussed, however, PML-N demanded to repeal 17th amendment. Earlier, Mian Nawaz Sharif had said that a breakthrough was essential in the meeting.Briefing the media about the meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and Mian Nawaz Sharif, Chairman PML-N Raja Zafar ul Haq told that not a single word about NRO was used in the 90 minutes meeting. He said the meeting between both the leaders could be termed as progress but not a breakthrough. According to Raja Zafar ul Haq, Mian Nawaz Sharif talked about saving the country from loans. Nawaz urged President Zardari to give Baloch people their due rights in compliance with the constitution. Terrorism has become a great challenge for Pakistan; use of power is not the only solution. Terrorism could be eradicated on permanent basis only through socio-economic development. Raja Zafar ul Haq also told that Nawaz urged Zardari to establish transparent governance system, adding that transparent and good governance was essential for the prosperity of the country. He said failure of the government should not cause failure to the system. Raja Zafar said PML-N would refrain from anything that could jeopardize the system. Nawaz Sharif demanded President Zardari to abolish 17th amendment.The PML-N chairman told that his party members were actively working in Constitutional Reforms Committee and it was demanded that the work of the committee should not be stretched and completed as soon as possible. He said the meeting could be termed as breakthrough in the context of stability of the country. Nawaz has made it clear to President Zardari that PML-N would only cooperate after practical steps and also demanded to implement Charter of Democracy immediately, he added. Raja Zafar ul Haq told that Nawaz narrated all the pledges in detail to the president, adding that his party would only be satisfied when they were fulfilled. He said the party had clear stand on NRO, however, it did not come under discussion during the meeting. PML-N has clearly stated its views on NRO and there would be no change in it, he added. Nawaz said if Pervez Musharraf had been trialed in the beginning, nobody would have dared to repeat the mistake. Answering a question, Raja Zafar ul Haq told that no place or time had been finalized for next meeting between both the leaders.
