Summary

The PCO judges who committed contempt of court have withdrawn the review petition against the July 31 decision of the Supreme Court (SC) by tendering an unconditioned apology, Dunya News Monday reported. The SC accepted the apology of 19 judges and pended the issue of Lahore High Court (LHC) former judge justice Zulfiqar Bokhari. A 14-member bench headed by the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary started action against those PCO judges who were served on the contempt of court notices on the last hearing. Twenty former judges of the LHC and the SC tendered their written apologies through their lawyers. The SC bench kept case of former judge justice Bokhari pending. Justice Bokhari in a statement had termed the July 31 decision as a black spot on the judiciary. On last hearing, Bokhari refuted any such statement but today a video of Bokharis statement was shown after which judges reprimanded Bokhari. CJ said that Bokhari had abused the judges and a wrong precedent shouldnt be set by accepting his apology. Counsel for Bokhari, Malik Qayyum maintained that Bokhari was depressed and wasnt in senses while giving the statement. The Supreme Court Bar Association former president Munir A Malik also came on the rostrum in Bokharis defense on which the court directed Bokhari to submit a detailed apology. Former chief justice Abdul Hamid Dogar was also served on a contempt of court notice but he didnt respond to it.
