Summary Govt has decided to enhance power production by increasing fuel supply to power plants.
Secretaries of Committee on energy have agreed to operationalize Qadir Pur gas field at the earliest to reduce the demand and supply gap while alternate resources would also be utilize for maximum power generation from fuel run plants.Meeting of Secretaries Committee on energy was held here to on Thursday in the Ministry of Water and Power to review the demand, supply and power generation in the country.The meeting was attended by Secretary Water and Power, Zafar Mehmood, Secretary Petroleum and Natural Resources, Dr. Waqar Masood and Joint Secretary (Power), Zergham Ishaq Khan.The meeting reviewed that the gas supply from Qadir Pur gas field was suspended to the four power plants namely Rosche power, Fauji Kabir Wala, Altern power and Engro power due to tripping of the gas field and generation reduced by 763 MW.The generation also affected from four IPPs near Lahore where gas was temporarily provided.The generation of 400 MW affected from these plants are Orient Power, Saif, Saphire and Halmore power plants.It was observed that about 1100 MW has been unexpectedly out from the system due to non supply of gas. Meanwhile, fuel supply would be enhanced for both public and private sector power plants to reduce the shortfall.It was decided that immediate steps would be taken to provide 5600 metric tons of furnace oil to Kapco, 5800 metric tons to Muzaffar Garh, and 2000 metric tons to Jamshoro power plant.It was also decided that total of 7400 metric tons would be provided to AES Lalpir, Pak Gen, Saba, Sepcol, Atlas, and Japan power company.The meeting noted that due to enhanced fuel supply to the power plants the power situation would improve and the people would get relief in the duration of load shedding.
