Punjab Government on Monday moved the Lahore High Court (LHC) for stopping the by-polls whereas Shiekh Rashid accused that Punjab government was conspiring against democracy. In a petition filed by the Punjab Government it is maintained that Election Commission issued the election schedule on its own and didnt consult the government before announcing the by-polls. The petition submitted that it was necessary to consult and take provinces into confidence for holding election which has not been done. Punjab Government Lawyer Mustafa Ramday and Khawaja Harris pleaded that by-elections were not possible in the current law and order situation. They requested the court to postpone the elections. On the other hand, Awami Muslim League Chief Sheikh Rashid has termed Punjab governments act as conspiracy against democracy. Addressing a press conference in Lahore, he said by-polls should be conducted within 60 days under the constitution whereas elections were being postponed despite the delay of 7 months in NA-55 Rawalpindi. Former federal minister accused that the government who failed to distribute flour during Ramadan was now avoiding holding elections in two constituencies.
