The US Senate has unanimously passed the Kerry-Lugar Bill following which Pakistan will get $1.5 billion aid annually, reported Dunya News. The new draft of the bill which has been approved doesnt contain the conditions which were put in the earlier draft. The language of the bill is also not strict like before. The bill authorizes president to give an annual aid of $1.5 billion from 2010 to 2014. On the basis of advancement, Pakistan will be given $7.5 billion more in next five years. The bill says that Pakistan is an important ally and friend of Pakistan which gave a lot of sacrifices in War on Terror. The bill asks Pakistan to cooperate for stopping nuclear proliferation. It maintains that Pakistan should either give direct access to the people involved in proliferation or give information to US which it obtains from the people who have been a part of the network involved in nuclear proliferation. Earlier, the bill had demanded direct access of US investigation officers to the people involved in nuclear proliferation. The bill also accepts importance of fulfilling Pakistans military needs to ensure its security, crushing militants and securing borders. However this has not been mentioned that how much money will be given for this purpose. The bill doesnt contain any such condition which if not abided by could stop Pakistans aid.
