Summary Transport fares are still unchanged despite governments recent reduction in oil prices.
When it comes to raising transport fares and prices of other commodities, concerned authorities take prompt action sans government notification. On contrary, masses are still deprived of any relief despite reasonable reduction in petroleum prices. The government reduced petrol prices by Rs 16 per litre and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) by Rs 9 per kilogram during month of June, however, transport fares remained unchanged and transporters have taken no step to adjust the rates. The increase in fares affects the commuters, particularly students, low-income and daily-wage workers who had already been on a tight budget.Passengers have criticized the transport owners for ignoring public woes and urged the government authorities to take action in this regard.
