The Supreme Court of Pakistan has sought explanation form the Federal Government on imposing additional taxes on petroleum products and termed the additional taxes as unreasonable. Chief Justice remarked that why the prices were increased silently. CJ Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary was hearing petitions regarding increase in the petroleum prices. He directed Attorney General Latif Khosa to submit detailed explanatory answer in the court. AG said informed the court that government faced a deficit of Rs 722 billion and had to pay loans of Rs 800 billion. Despite this all the government is giving subsidy of Rs 134 billion to the people, he maintained. The SC adjourned the hearing till September 28.
