The government has accepted the demands of sugar mill owners and increased the ex-mill sugar prices. Now the people will have to buy sugar at above Rs 50 per Kg. On the other hand the government has also directed the release of sugar hoarders. Federal Minister for Industry and Production after negotiating with sugar mill owner talked to the reporters in Islamabad. He said that sugar mills would provide sugar at Rs 48 in Sindh and Rs 49.75 in NWFP and Punjab during Ramadan. The country contains 1.2 million ton sugar while imported sugar will cost government at Rs 65 per kg, he revealed. He said that the sugar would be sold to the people at lower rates. Watto maintained that federal government had directed provincial governments to stop taking action against sugar dealers. The release of detained persons has also been ordered, Watto added. The governments crackdown against sugar hoarders was in progress for last several days during which above 1.6 million sugar bags were exported. Before the operation against hoarders, sugar was available at Rs 38 to Rs 40 which now has increased to Rs 55 to Rs 58.
