Summary

US special envoy to Pakistan and Afghanistan Richard Holbrooke met with PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad today. Halbrooke said that Pakistan is winning the war against extremists. The ongoing operation against extremists in Malakand and FATA, rehabilitation of IDPs, economic and security situation of Pakistan and energy crisis were discussed in the meeting between Nawaz Sharif and Richard Holbrooke held in Punjab House. Earlier, talking to journalists on board in his plane, Holbrooke said that Pakistani army has achieved its goals in the ongoing operation against Taliban in Swat and Buner. Instead of security issues, I am going to talk about a range of economic and social issues during my stay, said Richard Holbrooke. He said Pakistani army also got control of Mingora. Holbrooke had a doubt about the complete elimination of Taliban from Swat. He said Pakistan observed dramatic changes during March to April. Baitullah Mehsud has been killed, and a fight broke out in Tehreek-e-Taliban on leadership issue. It does not mean that all matters are resolved but the situation is better as compared to last few months, said Holbrooke. He vowed to boost US aid and assistance to Pakistan.
